Sixty firefighters attend Kilnhurst recycling centre blaze

SIXTY firefighters dealt with the second major blaze in 13 months at a recycling centre.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue sent 12 engines to the site in Kilnhurst at 4.30pm yesterday (Sunday).

Wharf Road was closed and residents were advised to keep windows and doors shut because of the amount of smoke created.

A service spokesman said: “No-one has been injured in this incident. Officers would like to thank the local community for their understanding and patience.”

The same business was the scene of another huge fire in May 2017, which was started accidentally by a machinery fault.
