Singers help celebrate Christmas for Rotherham Hospice

A CHOIR got into the festive spirit when they performed a concert to raise money for Rotherham Hospice.

The Margaret Duckworth Singers were joined by the All Star Brass Ensemble for a Christmas concert at St Margaret’s Parish Church, Swinton, on Thursday.

The Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham, Cllr Christopher Middleton and Mrs Ann Middleton, were among the special guests.

Margaret Duckworth, the group’s founder and musical director, also attended the event.

The Margaret Duckworth Singers were founded 40 years ago as a mixed group whose aim was to raise money for charity.

Mrs Duckworth — from whom the group takes its name — is well known as a tutor to many professional singers with Opera North and English National Opera.

She is also a professional soloist of international reputation in her own right.
