Showcasing creative talent in Rotherham

A free event open to all creative and cultural professionals across South Yorkshire is being held in Rotherham for the first time.

A CREATIVE and cultural event showcasing the region as a “hotbed of talent” is to be held in Rotherham for the first time.

People from across the cultural industries including artists, photographers, actors, and musicians will take to the stage when the South Yorkshire Cultural and Creative Industries Network (SYCCIN) event — organised by Showroom Workstation and the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) — takes place at Rotherham Civic Theatre this month.

The creative network was established after a Creative Summit in Sheffield in September last year and is hosting a programme of ten events across venues in South Yorkshire to help nurture talent and boost the sector.

The inaugural SYCCIN event took place in Doncaster in October last year, and was followed by a second event in Barnsley in December.

Kate Brindley, project director for arts, culture and heritage at SYMCA, said: “We’re really looking forward to hosting our next event in Rotherham.

“This region is a hotbed of talent with so many exciting projects underway and we’re excited to meet and hear from attendees later this month.

“The South Yorkshire Cultural and Creative Industries Network gives practitioners across the region the chance to connect with organisations and industry voices to celebrate the brilliant, inspiring work happening across the region.

“Our ambition is to provide a chance for attendees to learn from and support each other and a forum to discuss passions and insights which could lead to powerful future projects.”

The free event will take place between 9.30am and 12.30pm on Thursday, January 27 and is open to all creative and cultural professionals.

Attendees will be able to share details about their creative projects, hear about funding opportunities, meet industry peers and learn from a panel of industry professionals.

Food and drink will also be provided as part of the informal networking session.
