Rotherham - back in Championship action this Saturday at home to Wigan Athletic after the international break - have received dozens of applications and the plan is to whittle the number down to around six today and begin interviews on Wednesday.

"There is no set time frame for an appointment," Stewart said.  "It will be right when it's right.

"I think that fans, in an ideal world, would like to see a new face on Saturday. If it works that way, it works that way. If it doesn't, it doesn't.

"I always say this: we're desperate for a good deal but not desperate for any deal."

Until a new man is in place, training is being taken by captain Richard Wood and fellow senior player Lee Peltier who have Scott and honorary life-president John Breckin to call upon for advice.

"We're not without cover," Stewart said.
