Sheffield Wednesday interested in Rotherham United's Michael Ihiewe

SHEFFIELD Wednesday are on the track of Rotherham United's Michael Ihiekwe.

The centre-half, out of contract this summer, has yet to take up the offer of new and improved terms at AESSEAL New York Stadium and had been linked with Derby County.

However uncertainty over the takeover at Derby has seen Wednesday emerge as contenders for his signature. Ihiekwe is fresh from a strong promotion season that led to his inclusion in the League One Team of the Year.

The League One Owls have also been linked with another Rotherham player, striker Michael Smith, who falls out of contract at the end of this month but has a new deal from the Millers on the table.

Both Smith and Ihiekwe are due back for the start of pre-season training on Thursday.

Sheffield Wednesday are still hopeful of attracting ex-Miller Will Vaulks to Hillsborough.
