Shame of love-cheat rehab counsellor caught dealing drugs

THE shame of being caught having a love affair with a friend’s wife drove a drugs counsellor to start dealing in cocaine and heroin, a court heard.

Traces of the drugs were found on scales when police raided  a house belonging to Rotherham Clearways rehabilitation worker Paul Spittlehouse in Blyth Road, Maltby.

Spittlehouse was given a 51-week jail sentence, suspended for two years, when he appeared a Doncaster Crown Court. He was also ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.

The court was told that Spittlehouse had drug convictions dating back to the 1990s, but he had successful undergone rehab in 2001 and had started working voluntarily with adddicts before obtaining a full time work advising people on detoxification, rehab and also training magistrates.

But in 2009, he relapsed and took to dealing drugs after being discovered having an affair and being shunned by his friends and family as a result.
