Seven arrests after Mexborough shooting

A 30-year-old man was taken to hospital with a suspected shotgun wound, police said.

Five men — aged 25, 26, 27, 30, 48 — and two 30-year-old women were held on suspicion of assault and firearms offences.

Police were called to Hirst Gate shortly before 1am. 

A police spokeswoman said: “Shots were also fired at properties on Chaucer Road and Hawthorne Crescent, causing minor damage.

“Officers believe these to be targeted incidents and enquiries are ongoing to understand the circumstances.

“Neighbourhood teams are carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area this afternoon (Monday).”
