Second man named following fatal M1 collision

A SECOND man killed in a three-vehicle collision on the M1 northbound near Meadowhall has been named as Alexandru Murgeanu by police.

Mr Murgeanu (22), from Mansfield, died at the scene along with Moorgate man Jason Mercer (44) following the collision involving a silver Ford Focus, a silver Ford transit van and a lorry at 8.15am on Friday, June 7.

In a statement Mr Murgeanu's family said: “Alex was a boy with many plans and everyone loved him. His death has hit us very hard. All of our family and friends feel his absence, we miss him."

A 39-year-old man from Hull was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but has since been released on bail pending further enquiries. 

Officers are asking anyone who saw what happened, or who may have dash cam footage, to contact them. Call 101 quoting incident 196 of June 7, 2019.
