Seaside horror accident victim 'lucky to be alive'

WICKERSLEY woman Ann Smallwood has been revealed as the victim of a horrific accident at a seaside fairground.

Mrs Smallwood (58) and her great-niece Isabella (4), were badly injured after being flipped out of the Jungle River log-flume ride on Bridlington's seafront on Sunday.

The car they were riding in stopped suddenly on a steep slope to a water pool. and they were thrown out.

Both suffered serious leg injuries. Mrs Smallwood was airlifted to Hull Royal where she had emergency surgery. She is expected to be released from hospital this week.

Isabella, from Durham, who had been visiting Mrs Smallwood and her husband David at their caravan at Flamborough, has already been discharged from hospital after suffering serious cuts to her leg.

Mr Smallwood's son, John, said reports that his mother had lost a leg were wrong, she and Isabella were lucky to be alive.
