Science Park plan to rescue Earth Centre site

AMBITIOUS plans to turn an ill-fated tourist attraction into a “green” science, technology and engineering park could be given the go-ahead next month.

The disused Earth Centre at Denaby Main, which went bankrupt in 2004, is the subject of ambitious plans by a consortium which wants to turn it into a hub of science and training.

Fourteen universities and several other organisations, including the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and the Royal Horticultural Society, have expressed an interest in being part of the project, which would be known as the Life Park.

In a presentation to Doncaster Council, the team behind the scheme said that it would “encourage and enable the growth of understanding about ways of managing the relationship between human activity and natural resources.”

Councillors will vote on whether to back the plan at Doncaster Council's Cabinet meeting on February 16.

The consortium intend to buy the site with funds raised through a national share issue.
