A PETITION calling for safety measures outside a village school after “a number of incidents” has been submitted.

An automated crossing and 20mph limit are requested for the road outside Kilnhurst Primary.

Kate Beever collected 258 signatures in support of the move.

Ward member Cllr Stuart Sansome, who presented the case at a full council meeting, said: “This is due to a number of incidents involving school children almost being in collision with vehicles outside the school on Hooton Road, Kilnhurst.

“Mrs Beever contacted me requesting my support with the petition.

“I was happy to support the petition and speak at the recent meeting, raising the need for safety when children are crossing what has become a very busy thoroughfare.

“We look forward to hearing the response from RMBC and having further discussions as to how we can keep the children safe.”

The council said a response would be given to the lead petitioner by this week.
