THE Salvation Army is launching its annual Christmas Present Appeal with a call to action for members of the general public to help give a gift and light up the lives of those in need.

From this Sunday until Friday, December 18, the appeal invites members of the public to donate a new, unwrapped gift to be given to people in need in their local communities.

The gifts are then wrapped and distributed by The Salvation Army through its own networks, through local groups and other charities, health visitors and social services.

For the second year running The Salvation Army has joined forces with Superdrug as the official partner for the appeal.

This year The Salvation Army's Parkgate Corps in Quarry Street, Rawmarsh, has teamed up with the Superdrug store in Parkgate Shopping and people are invited to drop off gifts either at the worship hall or the store.

Major Alwyn Hockley, leader of The Salvation Army at Rawmarsh, said: "With so many needy children and family in our area we are hoping members of the public will be so kind to help out and donate gifts for this worthy cause."

The Parkgate Corps will also be carrying out a flag day collection at ASDA in Dalton on November 26 and 27.
