Ryan Giles joins Rotherham United on loan

The young Wolverhampton Wanderers left wing-back - who has been with the Millers' Championship rivals, Coventry City, for the first half of the season - has signed a loan deal until the end of the campaign.

Manager Paul Warne revealed that Giles is a player he has attempted to bring to AESSEAL New York Stadium in the past.

"He's a player we've liked for a couple of years," the boss said. "He's someone I've tried to sign before. He can play left-back or left wing but I think left wing-back is his best position.

"He's quick and direct and puts crosses into the box. He's got a good footballing brain and has a bit of experience in this league having played 19 times in it this season for Coventry.

The England under-20 international has trained with his new teammates for the first time today, his 21st birthday, and is likely to be in the squad for the match at Middlesbrough tomorrow evening.

He has yet to make a senior appearance for Wolves but impressed on loan at League One Shrewsbury Town last term before heading to Coventry in the summer.

He was recalled by the Premier League side and allowed to join the Millers because the Sky Blues have too many loan players in their squad.

Warne says the player will be an ideal fit for his team's 3-5-2 system.

"We are playing with wing-backs and have recently let Billy Jones go so we needed a bit more strength in that position," he said. "He's a good addition for us.

"As a full-back, he's more attacking than Joe Mattock; more of a winger than a full-back. Wing-back is the perfect position for him. The way we want to get crosses into the box, he definitely suits us.

"Most of the players we sign have a bit of versatility because we do change the system and ask people to play out of position. He can play anywhere down that left side."

Giles played twice for Shrewsbury against Rotherham last season, starting the Shrews' 1-0 win at New York and coming on as a substitute when the Millers triumphed 2-1 at New Meadow on Boxing Day.
