Staff from and friends of the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust will tackle the Run for All Sheffield 10K on September 23, raising cash for the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity’s Purple Butterfly Appeal.

But the team is seeking three more members to take on Sheffield’s infamous seven hills.

The charity’s fundraising team currently includes Penny Fisher, Paul Broughton, Lisa Tuck, Joanne Clough, Vicky Whitfield, Carl Roebuck and Angela Lalley.

Carl Roebuck (41), from Swinton, said: “My four-year-old son Leo was treated on the Children’s Ward at Rotherham Hospital recently, after suffering from a serious infection.

“It was a harrowing time for my wife and I but he was so well cared for.

“I also have a family member currently undergoing chemotherapy for lymphoma, so this is my way of giving something back to the hospital.”

He added: “I’m really looking forward to taking part in the Sheffield 10K. I know it will be a great atmosphere.

“I’m a keen runner and like to run a few times a week, including in the Peak District.

“Hopefully, that will help me cope with the run’s infamous hills.”

The race route begins at Arundel Gate and takes runners on a journey along Charter Row and along Ecclesall Road, before skirting the edges of Endcliffe Park.

It continues along Riverdale Road and Endcliffe Vale Road, then travels down Brocco Bank and back to the city centre for the finish.

Barry Mellor, chair of the charitable funds committee, said: “Earlier this year, we appealed for people to take part and were delighted with the response, particularly as it’s only our second year entering a team.”

He added: “The Purple Butterfly Appeal is going from strength to strength, so it’s an exciting time to join our fundraising team.”

The team hopes to raise more than £2,000 for the appeal. Visit tinyurl.com/shef10krun to donate.
