“The force will use his experience and skills in organisational change to help deliver a series of business critical programmes within force.

“In the interim, Supt Steve Chapman will be acting commander, and Iain Chorlton will join the district as Temporary Supt of Operations.”

Asst Chief Con David Hartley said: “Chief Supt Odell has provided long and loyal command at Rotherham and has worked through some very challenging times for both policing and for the partnership.

“He has led the district to the stable position it is in now, and the force is very grateful for his leadership and impact at Rotherham.

“Communities and the partnership will see the continuity of policing command as Supt Steve Chapman began his temporary role on Monday.”
