Rotherham's Christmas Lights Switch-on will go ahead tonight

ROTHERHAM’S Christmas Lights Switch-on will go ahead tonight — but attendees are reminded Forge Island car park remains closed.

The council said it had been monitoring the weather and despite rain due forecast for today (Thursday), there are no severe weather warnings in place for Rotherham.

The event will kick-off in All Saints' Square from 5.30pm to 7pm and feature folk singer Lauren Housley alongside the Rotherham Youth Choir.

A spokesperson for Rotherham Council added: “Forge Island car park will remain closed due to ongoing flood recovery work.

People are advised to use parking facilities at Wellgate multi-story, Drummond Street and Clifton Park.

“Public transport is also limited as trains are not running and we would advise that visitors plan their journeys ahead. Any further updates will be provided via the council website, Facebook and Twitter pages and in the local press.”
