ROTHERHAM’S dustmen are back on the roads this week after being hampered by the wintry weather.

Rotherham Borough Council said today that it was now attempting to provide a full collection of black bins again.

The emptying of green bins has been suspended for the week as all crews and extra staff and vehicles are diverted to the black bin service, which was interrupted last week because of the weather conditions.

A council spokeswoman said: “Last week, crews operated where they could, providing it was safe for them to manoeuvre the 26-tonne refuse vehicles but unfortunately some of the borough's 108,000 properties did miss out.

“It is our intention to provide all properties with a black bin collection this week and crews will also be working on Saturday.

“If any black bins are not collected from the kerbside on the scheduled collection day, arrangements are in place to collect the black bin as soon as possible.

“From next Monday, January 18, the service will revert to the normal black bin and green bin alternate week waste collection and recycling schedules.”
