Rotherham United's Matt Olosunde hope while Trevor Clarke 'upset' over bench exclusion

The wing-back came off with a calf issue in yesterday's 0-0 draw at Huddersfield Town, the first match of the Millers' four-games-in-nine-days 'Week of Death' schedule.

Third-bottom Rotherham are at home to QPR on Tuesday night and boss Paul Warne said: "I'm always hopeful where Matt is concerned. He is pretty good at recovery. He's the elastic man. I'd like to think he will be ready in time."

The manager, who admitted that left-back Trevor Clarke was "upset" not to make the squad for the trip to the John Smith's Stadium, is likely to make several changes so he can keep key men fresh for Thursday's showdown with safety rivals Coventry City and Sunday's clash with Birmingham City.

"The lads left a lot out there on a massive pitch at Huddersfield," he said. "I'll look at the GPS stats and try to make some sensible decisions."

There was no room for Clarke on the bench against the Terriers and Warne said he felt sorry for the 23-year-old who has made only one start this season.

"It was just down to the number of bodies," the boss said. "I packed the bench with attacking players. It's hard for Trev. I feel for him. He was a bit upset when I told him and I understand why.

"We (the staff) talked for a while about who we were going to leave off the bench. I wanted Chieo (Chiedozie Ogbene) there. Sads (Kieran Sadlier) has been brilliant in training. I can't even get Sads on the pitch, which is a bit harsh.

Like with Flo (Florian Jozefzoon), they're good attacking options. I had two centre mids and two strikers on the bench as well. It was a difficult one. I didn't want to leave anyone off but it was my decision not to include Trev."

Meanwhile, loan midfielder Lewis Wing, who three times came close to his first Millers goal against Huddersfield, says Rotherham can take heart from their display in West Yorkshire as they head into the QPR contest looking to make inroads into the six-point gap between themselves and Coventry.

“I wouldn't say it's a 'must win' game but it's important for us," he said. "After that performance I feel disappointed about the result but we'll go into Tuesday with confidence.

"With nine games to go, we've got to keep playing like that. If we do, we shouldn't have a problem."
