Rotherham United welcome athletic wing-back Peter Kioso to the fold

WING-BACK Peter Kioso has become Rotherham United's second signing of the summer.

And, says manager Paul Warne, the 22-year-old right-sided operator will add athleticism to his promoted team.

Kioso has joined on a three-year deal from Luton Town for an undisclosed fee. He also enjoyed a successful loan spell at MK Dons last season.

Warne said: "He's athletic, quick and can defend really well one v one. He's also good in the air.

"We'll need to get more out of him in the final third but he just adds a bit more for us down that side of the pitch because currently we only have Wes (Harding) and Chieo (Ogbene) there.

"He is in to compete with those two in those sorts of positions."

Kioso started out at Dunstable Town and then Hartlepool United, becoming a regular before joining Luton for an undisclosed fee in January 2020.

He had loan stints at Bolton Wanderers and Northampton Town and headed to Milton Keynes early last season.

Kioso did well there, playing 19 times and scoring four goals as Liam Manning's team laid the basis for a promotion challenge.

He was recalled by the Hatters in January and made a further 15 appearances in what turned out to Luton's best season in years, reaching the Championship play-offs.

However, Kioso was not a regular starter and will be striving to become one at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

His arrival and the promise of more new faces provides some positivity after the painful loss of top scorer Michael Smith and League One Team of the Year man Michael Ihiekwe to Sheffield Wednesday.

Rotherham's other new signing, striker Conor Washington, joined last month.

Warne hopes to bring in more new faces over the course of the next week.

Meanwhile Jordi Osei-Tutu, who spent last season on loan with the Millers, he's joined VfL Bochum on a permanent transfer.
