Rotherham United waiting on Richard Wood scan result

The skipper travelled to Leeds this morning for a scan which will determine the extent of the groin injury he picked up in last Friday' FA Cup win over Stockport County.

"Woody 's pain has reduced over the weekend," manager Paul Warne said. "We won't take unnecessary risks but he might be okay for Tuesday.

"We're not starting on the grass until 1pm today and I'll know for sure by then."

Wing-back Shane Ferguson has recovered from illness and is available for the AESSEAL New York Stadium showdown with the Gills who are managed by former Rotherham boss Steve Evans.

After Gillingham, table-topping Rotherham are at home to Burton Albion before travelling to Cambridge United and Warne wants to see an improvement in his side as they look to maintain their two-points-a-game record.

"We've got three matches that we want to accumulate a lot of points from," he said. "I think we need to be better than we have been in the last couple of games.

"We need to pick up points at home. Gillingham and Burton will come here and make it very difficult for us. We need to refresh the lads because I just think we've come away a little bit from what we are very good at.

"Hopefully we can get that message across today and perform well tomorrow."

The Millers, undefeated in their last 18 matches, are in tonight's FA Cup third-round draw. Warne would love a home date with Premier League Newcastle United but will be content with any tie as long as it doesn't involve much travelling.

"A good home draw against a good team would be great," he said. " I'm tempting fate here massively but if we get, say, Brighton or Bournemouth away I'll be like: 'Oh my days.' I'd take a local derby just for the geography.

Meanwhile, young Millers goalkeeper Josh Chapman made an impressive loan debut for Frickley Athletic in their 1-1 home draw with Northern Premier League East Division leaders Shildon on Saturday.

The 19-year-old, signed in the summer following his release by Sheffield United, has joined the non-leaguers until next month.

"He did really well early on but then picked up a wrist injury," Warne said. "He came back from that and has looked really good in training. He just needs to play games for his development.

"He's a popular member of the dressing room and we're really pleased with how he's doing."
