The Middlesbrough midfielder starred for the Millers in 20 appearances in the second half of last season as they slipped out of the Championship.

They would have loved see him return to AESSEAL New York Stadium and conversations took place with Boro but, in the end, the finances involved ended any prospect of a deal.

Wing, aged 26, who is in the final year of his contract at the Riverside Stadium where he is believed to earn up to £10,000 a week, will now spent the next campaign at Hillsborough.

The Owls have done well to land him as there was interest in him from Championship clubs including Luton Town and Hull City and he had been expected to to remain in the second tier.
