Rotherham United sweat on injury verdict as Trevor Clarke is stretchered off in first Millers outing

ROTHERHAM United are waiting to discover the full extent of Trevor Clarke's injury after the new boy was stretchered off in a friendly before his Millers move was even announced.

The 21-year-old damaged his knee in a collision with his own goalkeeper in this afternoon's private match against Newcastle United Under-23s at Roundwood.

The club confirmed the left-back's arrival on a three-year deal from League of Ireland Premier Division side Shamrock Rovers just as he was heading to hospital in an ambulance for a scan.

Clarke had been training with the club since last but Rotherham were unable to unveil him as their ninth summer signing until international clearance came through.

The documentation was in place in time for him to feature against the Magpies along with trialist Brad Dockerty.

"We're hoping the news on Trevor isn't as bad as we first feared," said manager Paul Warne.

The boss has contacted the player but had yet to hear back earlier this evening.

The Millers open their League One campaign at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
