Rotherham United prospect Josh Kayode returns to Carlisle on loan

YOUNG Rotherham United striker Josh Kayode will spend next season on loan at Carlisle.

The 19-year-old is joining the Cumbrians for the 2020/21 season having enjoyed a successful stint at Brunton Park earlier this year.

Kayode joined Carlisle on loan in January and scored three goals in five appearances in a spell interrupted by a return to Rotherham for treatment on a hamstring injury.

The youth product is highly thought of by the Millers coaching staff and at Carlisle, where manager Chris Beech wants a mix of “young, hungry” players and more experienced operators ready for a push in League Two next term.

The prospect of more regular senior football to speed Kayode’s progress also helped the move.

The forward went on loan to non-league Gateshead at the start of last season and before that to Chesterfield.

Millers chief Paul Warne, meanwhile, is having talks with various transfer targets ahead of the new Championship campaign, which starts on September 12, with another planned for tomorrow.

But with many Premier League and Championship clubs still to report back, the market is slow.
