Rotherham, who return for pre-season training on Thursday, have yet to make a signing as they gear up for their League One campaign and manager Paul Warne is keen to begin his recruitment.

Cup hero Rooney, aged 24, is in the final year of his contract at McDairmid Park.

The six-foot-three-inch full-back scored in both finals last season as Scottish Premership side St Johnstone lifted the Scottish Cup and Betfred Cup by beating Hibs and Livingstone respectively.

Rooney, born in North Lanarkshire, started out at Queens Park and has also played for Dunfermline Athetic, York City, Queen of the South and Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
