Rotherham United injury concern over goalkeeper Daniel Iversen

The shot-stopper is only two months into a season-long loan but is already a key man for the Millers who are desperately hoping  that the young Dane won't require an operation.

Rotherham, who should be boosted by the return of right-back Matt Olosunde, are in League One action at Bristol Rovers on Saturday and would love to have Iversen in their line-up at the Memorial Stadium.

The 22-year-old hurt his finger last Saturday before the home draw with Shrewsbury Town but got through the game.

"There's a doubt over Dan," manager Paul Warne said on Thursday morning. "He damaged a ligament in his finger in the warm-up last Saturday.

"He managed to play on but if he takes his glove off you can see the damage to his finger.

"He's had a scan. The damage is not as severe as it could have been. He's got an appointment with a surgeon in Leicester.

"We're hopeful it will be a manageable thing and not a surgical thing. The lad wants to play. He says he can manage it. Fingers crossed he'll be available."

Iversen was being examined by the specialist yesterday (Thursday).

Defender Olosunde was due to resume training yesterday after hamstring tightness and is expected to be in the squad that travels to Bristol to take on an eighth-placed Rovers side containing former Millers striker Jonson Clarke-Harris.

"Matt is good," Warne said. "If there are no problems in training, he will be available for selection. I'm not anticipating any issues."

Rotherham, in 13th place and with at least one game in hand on nearly all of the teams above them, were defeated 2-1 at Rovers two seasons ago, losing midfielder Darren Potter to a long-term injury and having loan hot-shot Kieffer Moore sent off in the process.

"It's two different teams to last time. They've got a different manager as well," Warne said.

"They're on a good run, to be fair. They'll have a go at us and we'll have a go at them so it should be an open game.

"Hopefully, we can have a better day there than we did last time. We didn't have Pottsy for a year and a half afterwards and we hardly saw Kieffer again in Rotherham shirt again.

"I remember seeing Kieffer getting revved up and then sent off and thinking: 'Oh my days'. Whatever could go wrong last time did go wrong. Hopefully, it will be a better day out this time around."

Meanwhile, the Millers are waiting to hear back from centre-half Michael Ihiekwe and left-back Joe Mattock after making formal offers of new contracts and following up with meetings with the players' agents.

"I hoping it will be done soon," Warne said. "Both want to stay. They haven't refused the offers so I don't think we're a million miles from getting it done."
