Rotherham United have rejected three bids for Dan Barlaser from a rival Championship side. But does the player himself fancy the move?

A rival Championship side this week submitted offer number three of the summer to Rotherham United, upping the fee they are now willing to pay to beyond the £1-million mark.

The Millers say they wouldn’t be looking to sell their playmaker even if the figure was double that amount and the player himself is happy with that decision.

“I have spoken to Dan. He has no interest in leaving to go there,” said manager Paul Warne.

The boss refused to name the club, saying it wouldn’t be fair on them, but it is thought to be Blackpool.

Warne, whose side won 2-1 at League One Port Vale in the first round of the Carabao Cup last night, sees the 25-year-old Geordie as crucial to his promoted team’s chances of establishing themselves in the second tier this season.

“The offer has gone up,” he said. “I think it is that club’s third bid and I presume it is their last. We just said categorically ‘no’.

The midfielder is in the final 12 months of his three-year deal and his manager said: “We will try to re-sign him or he might want to see his contract out.

“Selling him is not something we are looking to do and I don’t think anyone will offer anything that makes it worthwhile.”

Barlaser joined Rotherham permanently from Premier League Newcastle United in 2020 after a successful season-long loan and the Magpies insisted on a 40 per cent sell-on agreement before sanctioning his departure.

Contrary to ill-informed claims on social media, there is no release clause in his deal if the bidding reaches £1.5 million.
