The 20-year-old has returned to parent club Glasgow Rangers after failing to find the game-time he wanted at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

He made a bright start to his Millers career, scoring in all of his first three games after his September arrival, but gradually faded out of the first-team picture.

In all, he played 16 times for Paul Warne's side but hadn't started a match since the December 14 League One 2-2 draw at Southend United.

He scored at Doncaster Rovers on his debut and quickly added further goals against Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland.

The former Motherwell prospect was quick and skilful on the ball but there were question marks about his work out of possession.

He will be unable to go out on loan again during the transfer window because he has already played for Rangers and Rotherham in this campaign and rules prohibit a player turning out for more than two sides in a single season.

A Millers statement said: "Rotherham United can confirm an agreement was reached between the two clubs to end Jake's season-long loan deal early.

"He returns to Rangers with the best wishes of everyone at Rotherham United."
