A day after landing defender Lee Peltier, the promoted Millers are now on the brink of adding a loan midfielder to their Championship squad.

Manager Paul Warne met the target, believed to be from another second-tier side, in person yesterday and the deal is on course to be wrapped up shortly.

"I don't want to give out false hope but I'm pretty confident we might get another new face in before the start of the season," the boss said.

Rotherham remain in the market for a centre-forward and have two main targets but no arrival is imminent.

Speaking yesterday, Warne said. "I had a FaceTime with a striker I would love to bring to the club on Sunday night. The agent said he would let us know today.

We're not the only club going for him. It's a waiting game. There are a lots of ifs, buts and maybes. Maybe we are dreaming too big.

"I am hopeful of at least a 'yes' or 'no' today. If it's a 'no', then it's fine. We'll move on. It wouldn't be the first time I've moved on this pre-season."

Both attackers the Millers have in their sights have Championship experience.

Warne also wants to sign a second midfielder and has identified a free-transfer target.

"The midfield is the strongest part of our team but we are only ever one or two injuries away from a disaster," he said.

"The way we play with three high-energy midfielders, I really think we need to carry six."
