ROTHERHAM United have scotched claims that centre-half Clark Robertson could be heading out of AESSEAL New York Stadium amid interest from Championship sides.

Reports emerged that Sheffield Wednesday and Queens Park Rangers have made moves for the left-sided defender who is a key man for the League One Millers.

Manager Paul Warne emphatically denied the rumours, saying: "There is no truth in that at all."

However, he was unable to guarantee that striker Kyle Vassell, one of the stand-out performers of pre-season, would be staying in South Yorkshire.

Robertson has two years left on his deal at AESSEAL New York Stadium and Warne wants the 25-year-old in his side as Rotherham look to make an immediate return to the second tier.

"If there is truth in it, I'm amazed the clubs haven't phoned us and told us," the manager added. "I don't know if it is agent-led or scaremongering, but there is nothing in it.

"That's the joy of Twitter for you! Every time I come home my wife goes 'Oh my God, you're getting rid of Robbo', and I'm like 'No!'."

When asked about a potential departure, Warne said: "Watch this space, I don't know if it is going to happen or not happen. I manage the club with the chairman, but fundamentally it is his club.

"I am hopeful that we won't lose anyone, but some people want different things. The group I have got are really close and if I can keep them all together and just add then we are looking in good fettle."

Vassell, aged 26, is believed to be a target of League Two newcomers Salford City and Warne said: "There's nothing I can say on that. I do know when I signed Kyle last summer, Salford did want him."

After bringing in goalkeeper Daniel Iversen on Monday, Warne expects to make two more signings this week, with midfielder Jamie Lindsay, 23, and left-back Trevor Clarke, 21, poised to join the Millers from Ross County and Shamrock Rovers respectively.

Lindsay has already travelled to Rotherham to finalise his deal and his arrival could be confirmed today.

"We need to get another midfielder in," Warne said. "We need another full-back and a centre-half. Bids are out there. I was very hopeful that it would have all been done on Monday, but it didn't get done.

"We are not too shabby. We are slowly but surely getting a squad together that can be competitive."

Rotherham's desire to add to their left-back cover has become more pressing after Joe Mattock suffered a groin injury in last night's friendly against West Bromwich Albion.

On Clarke, Warne said: "I like him. He is an absolute athlete, which suits me. We sold Ben (Purrington) to Charlton so we obviously need back-up and I would like to think we would get a full-back in by the end of the week.

"We are going to need one if Joe is not fit."
