Rotherham United add new wing-back to wanted list

ROTHERHAM United are seeking to sign a new wing-back after being hit with the verdict on Peter Kioso's groin injury.

The summer signing faces more than two months on the sidelines after being forced off in the first half of last Wednesday's 2-1 Carabao Cup triumph at Port Vale.

That means Paul Warne will make a move to land a reinforcement before the September 1 close of the transfer window.

"I think Peter will be out for eight to ten weeks, which is a blow," said the manager after watching his team hammer Reading 4-0 in yesterday's Championship clash at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

"We obviously have to strengthen in that position because at this moment we have got only Wes (Harding) to play there and he is a centre-half."

Warne's other priority before deadline day is another striker and he is also in the market with less intent for a midfield addition.

"I would like another midfielder but it is more a precaution in case we lose someone," he said.

"The wing-back is a definite and a striker, if we can get someone better than what we already have, is the cherry on the cake."

The Millers missed out on Watford frontman Ashley Fletcher, who joined Wigan Athletic on loan on Friday, but have been served well by Conor Washington, Chiedozie Ogbene and Georgie Kelly up front in the opening games of the season and also have injured centre-forwards about to return.

"With the way the lads have performed, to get someone in better is going to be difficult," the boss said.

"We have got Tom Eaves coming back in on Monday, and JJ (Josh Kayode) is available the week after.

"You always want more but we are blessed with what we have got. Sometimes you forget that."

Rotherham head to Preston North End on Tuesday in a league match that pits two unbeaten teams against each other.

All the Millers players came through the Royals clash unscathed and the club's medical staff say Eaves is capable of playing 20 minutes if necessary.

"I don't think there are any new injuries," said Warne soon after yesterday's game. "The physios normally give me a look and they haven't yet. There were no substitutions made because of an injury so I don't expect there to be any problems."
