Rotherham students boosted by Feoffees scholarship cash

Hollie Sykes and Rachel Cheshire, both former pupils of Thomas Rotherham College were awarded scholarships by the Feoffees of the charity known as The Common Lands of Rotherham.

TWO students have been given a helping hand by a group of school old boys.

Both students were supported with £1,000 grants from the charity.

Hollie was give the Feoffees Scholarship, which is awarded to an outstanding A level student pursuing a degree in English, foreign Languages or History, while Rachel received the Harold Bridges Memorial Scholarship, which goes to a maths or science student.

The Harold Bridges Memorial Scholarship was launched in memory of Harold Bridges, a former student of Rotherham Grammar School in the 1930s, who went on to become chief executive and president of Shell Canada.   

Initially, both scholarships were awarded to A level students studying at TRC but the Feoffees have now decided the opportunity to apply for either 

scholarship will be extended from this academic year onwards to cover all schools in the Rotherham area offering A level courses.
