Rotherham shooting incidents 'targeted' but not linked, say police
The scene in Flanderwell Lane this morning.

TWO suspected shooting incidents within hours in Rotherham were not linked but were targeted, police have said.

Officers were called to Flanderwell Lane in Sunnyside at 12.35am today and found a man with a suspected gunshot injury to his leg.

The 29-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment, a police spokeswoman said.

The incident happened just 12-and-a-half hours after a 22-year-old man was reportedly shot and stabbed in the Clough Road area of Thornhill yesterday afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said this afternoon: “Officers are investigating the two incidents separately and do not believe there are any links.

“Officers also believe both matters to be targeted incidents.”

The Clough Road incident is number 454 of March 2 while the Sunnyside incident is number 23 of March 3. Anyone with information about either suspected shooting should call police on 101 quoting those incident numbers.
