Owner David Lister praised the police’s “terrific” response” and insisted it was business as usual tonight for the popular restaurant.

Mr Lister said his wife Laura had had to deal with the upsetting aftermath this morning alone as he had been working away.

“Thankfully, our staff all rallied round her,” he said.

Mr Lister labelled the burglars “selfish” and blasted them for robbing from a small, local business.

“The money that we take in September pays for our chefs’ children’s school uniform,” he added.

Despite the break-in, Mr Lister said Rotherham and his customers were “great” and the restaurant will open as usual this evening (Friday).
