Rotherham hosts international business conference

BUSINESS leaders from across France, Sweden and India gathered in Rotherham recently to discuss the way that titanium can be used in the health care industry.

The event was held at the National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC) and organised by the Titanium Information Group.

Topics for discussion included the advantages that titanium has over other metals in replacing joints or in reconstructions.

One of the keynote speakers was Anita Clarke from JRI in Sheffield, a company that manufactures orthopaedic implants, including hip and joint replacements.

Delegates also heard about Sheffield University's work in developing dental implants for cleft palates and broken jaw joints.

Programme Manager Alastair Lang from NAMTEC, said: "This conference was very well attended and the number of visitors who travelled from overseas to attend is testament to the opportunities that lie in this area.

“It gave an in-depth insight into the use of titanium in the health care industry and the way that manufacturers can make use of the material to supply high quality products to this sector."
