Rotherham Hospital ‘murder’ victim named

A PATIENT who died following a fight with another patient at Rotherham Hospital on Saturday evening has been formally named by police as Paul Reed.

Detectives launched a murder investigation after 48-year-old Mr Reed died of a bleed on the brain in the early hours of Sunday morning “after an altercation with another patient on Saturday”. 

Officers were called by a member of hospital staff at 8.54pm on Saturday when the fight broke out between the two patients and arrested a 47-year-old man.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said of Mr Reed’s death: “A post-mortem carried out on Monday concluded that he (Mr Reed) died of a subdural haemorrhage, which is a type of bleed on the brain.

“A 47-year-old man remains in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

“We continue to support Mr Reed’s family and work closely with Rotherham District General Hospital as our inquiry continues.
