Rotherham flies the flag in solidarity with Ukraine as Millers and Titans also show their support

YELLOW and blue flags are being flown proudly at public buildings as Rotherham shows its solidarity with the embattled people of Ukraine.

Rotherham Town Hall was lit up in Ukrainian colours for last Wednesday’s council meeting, during which a minute’s applause was held, while Riverside House is also flying the half-and-half flag alongside the Yorkshire emblem.

Community efforts planned to support refugees include a bucket collection by Rotherham Titans for cash donations at the home match against Chester on Saturday.

Next Tuesday, from 11am until late, the Clifton Lane clubhouse will be open as a place to drop-off food donations.

Rotherham United players and fans joined with their MK Dons counterparts for a minute’s applause before Saturday’s match as the Ukrainian flag was displayed on the big screen, which the Millers said “reaffirmed our support to those caught up in the crisis”.

A collection of donations for refugees was made before the match for soldiers, families, children, doctors and volunteers in the war-torn country, while members of the Rotherham United podcast, New York Talk, are planning a 12-hour show in order to raise funds for Red Cross Ukraine.
