Rotherham drinkers face extension to no-booze zone

CONSULTATION has started on plans to hand police extra powers to snatch booze from Rotherham’s rowdy street drinkers.

The Designated Public Place Order would see restrictions on public alcohol consumption apply across most of the borough.

Officers would be able to confiscate drink where they judge there to be a risk of anti-social behaviour or more serious crime.

Failure to comply is a criminal offence and carries a maximum fine of £500. A DPPO has already been introduced in the town centre.

Maps of Rotherham Borough Council’s proposed extensions to the zone can be viewed at Reresby House, Bow Bridge Close during normal opening hours.

Comments can be emailed to [email protected] by February 10.
