Rotherham crime rate slashed

REPORTED crime in Rotherham fell by an average of three percent over the 12 months—smashing police targets and surpassing improvements elsewhere in the county.

South Yorkshire Police released its latest crime statistics today, revealing a fall from dropped from 17,325 to 16,790 incidents between 2010/11 and 2011/12.

The statistics showed an eight per cent fall in violent crime, a ten per cent drop in criminal damage, a 13 per cent drop in vehicle crime and a 53 per cent fall in hate crimes within Rotherham borough.

Violent crime, criminal damage and vehicle crime fell by 12, six and eight percent respectively across the county by comparison.
