A job advert for his replacement says: “Commitment, tenacity and passion have already taken us a long way. You’ll take us even further.

“Working at the core of our regeneration, culture, leisure and environmental ambitions, you’ll think bigger and be bolder.”

The director will be responsible for 1,279 staff at Rotherham Borough Council — and have an annual budget of £41 million.

The advert — posted on LocalGov Jobs — adds: “The role sits front and centre of our aspirational and progressive Rotherham plan.

“With significant experience of leading a diverse senior management team in a complex organisation, you’ll have also successfully controlled large complex budgets within tight financial limits.

“If you want to flourish in an innovative, honest and straight-forward culture, managing change to improve outcomes for the people of Rotherham, we would love to hear from you.”

The advert says the role will have a “competitive salary” but does not give a specific amount.

Mr Wilson’s shock departure was revealed by the Advertiser last September, before being confirmed by RMBC the following month.

He took up the role in 2016 and was leading the town centre masterplan work, including the regeneration of Forge Island.
