Rotherham Council expands free town centre parking on Saturdays

ONE thousand free parking spaces will be on offer on Saturdays in Rotherham town centre from next month.

Rotherham Borough Council is expanding free Saturday parking from Forge Island to the Drummond Street surface car park and Wellgate multi-storey from April 6.

No ticket is required for this offer.

Town centre visitors can also park for free for two hours in the “red zone” at Forge Island and Drummond Street, although a ticket is needed.

The council’s cabinet member for jobs and the local economy, Cllr Denise Lelliott, said: “More permanent free parking at weekends will help shoppers and businesses alike.

Shopping and spending leisure time in the town centre, including at the many cafés and restaurants, gives a vital boost to local businesses.

“If everyone spent just a few pounds locally each week, it would make a huge difference to Rotherham's businesses.”
