Rotherham College students invited to House of Lords reception
MADE-UP students spoke of their pride at being invited to a prestigious House of Lords reception.
Emily Smith and Megan Bentley, who are on the performing arts specialist make-up course at University College Rotherham accompanied hair and media make-up curriculum team Leader Katie Asgari to the event, which was hosted by Baroness Gardens and celebrated high-achieving and innovative college departments.

Hide AdUCR is part of Rotherham College, which was invited after winning a Beacon Award for the
hair and make-up department’s work with realistic illness and injury special effects.
Katie: “We were invited to the House of Lords for a celebration reception in recognition of the work we do.
“This was a very special event and felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to raise our profile amongst such a variety of nationally-important people at the same time.

Hide Ad“It was great to see so many other colleges and hear about their achievements too whilst sharing good practices and making new contacts.”
Megan added: “We are proud to have attended a college that has won such a prestigious award as the Beacon Award and it’s great to add this to my CV to show employers what I can do."
Fellow UCR student Emily Smith added: said she felt “privileged to have been invited to the event and proud to represent the college”.
