Rotherham child sex abuse suspects ordered to hand over passports

EIGHT men accused of multiple child sex offences have appeared in court this morning and been ordered to hand over their passports.

Four of the defendants who appeared before magistrates in Rotherham have been charged with rape — Asif Ali (30), of Clough Road, Waleed Ali (33), of Canklow Road, Ishtiaq Khaliq (32) of Cherry Brook, and Masoued Malik (31) of Bridgewater Way, Ravenfield.

Arshid Hussain (40) of High Street, East Cowick, Goole, who had already appeared at the Crown Court charged with several offences, appeared to face an extra charge of indecent assault.

Hussain, has missed earlier hearings reportedly suffering from health problems and appeared in his wheelchair.

Sageer Hussain (30), of Clough Road, Rotherham, had been reported on summons for four counts of rape and one count of indecent assault, while Naeem Rafiq (32) of Clarendon Road, Eastwood, had been summonsed for conspiracy to indecently assault and conspiracy to falsely imprison.

Mohammed Whied (31) of Psalters Lane, Sheffield, faces two counts of aiding and abetting rape.

Basharat Hussan (39), remains on remand at HMP Doncaster and has already been charged with several offences. He appeared to face an extra charge of indecent assault.

With the exception of Basharat Hussan, who was remanded in custody, all the suspects were released on conditional bail but told to surrendering their passports.

They were also ordered not to communicate with witnesses.

No pleas were entered but solicitors for the defendants said they all intended to deny all charges.

The case was sent to the Crown Court, where the nine will next appear on November 30.
