Rotherham child protection failures slammed

A NUMBER of agencies failed to properly assess and monitor a Rotherham foster father who subjected three young girls to years of sexual abuse, a damning report has revealed.

Rotherham Borough Council’s children and young people's services has changed assessments for new foster carers after a serious case review revealed "all agencies should have been better."

All the agencies have apologised after it emerged warning signs should have been identified and acted on.

Greasbrough grandfather Kenneth Morton was jailed for 12 years in 2008 for sexual assaults over five years against three girls aged 11 to 13 who were placed in his and his wife's care by the council.

Those identified in the report include Rotherham Safeguarding Children Board, Rotherham NHS, Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Services (CAFCASS), Rotherham Primary Care Trust Children and Young Peoples Services, Rotherham Primary Care Trust GP Services, Rotherham Borough Council’s Children and Young People’s Services, Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber Mental Health NHS Trust and South Yorkshire Police.
