Rotherham charity for young homeless secures future with grant

RUSH House has received a £91,000 grant to help future sustainability of the homelessness charity for young people.

The support is from the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) Resilience Fund with money provided by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

Rush House, on Doncaster Road, said the cash would help make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable people.

Chief executive Rachael Wilson said: “We are very grateful to accept this key piece of grant funding to help us support our community as we rebuild from the pandemic.

“This funding is a vote of confidence in our work, our purpose and our determination to improve the lives of the people we exist to support.”

Rush House has a long track record of supporting youngsters in Rotherham back to the early 1980s.

The charity said it was in talks with Hannah Butler, of Sensus Coaching, about leadership and resilience training.

The first phase of the resilience fund in late 2020 and early 2021 saw support given to 645 charities, helping them survive the initial shock of the pandemic and resulting lockdowns.

This second phase saw the CAF identify organisations working in the communities hardest hit by Covid-19.

Monica Brown, CAF head of charity advisory and programmes, said: “In delivering the CAF Resilience Fund, we have been both humbled and inspired by the work that is happening on the ground in our local communities.

“We are proud to partner with both the Government and the Covid-19 Support Fund to provide this unique support for some of our country’s most vulnerable communities.

“Congratulations to Rush House and our sincere thanks for all that you are doing.”
