Rotherham charities' £7,000 share-out

FIVE charities have been presented with a share of almost £7,000 thanks to the grit and determination of a Rotherham relay team.

Sixteen runners along with their support crews took part in the JOGLER 2010 event (John o' Groats to Land's End Relay) back in June to raise funds for good causes.

The team set themselves a target of five and a half days to complete the gruelling challenge which they completed non-stop.

They ran through the night in all kinds of weather, each runner completing an eight-mile section of the relay before handing on the baton to the next team member.

Representatives from the team handed over five cheques to Cavendish Cancer Care, Help for Heroes, Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice, End Polio Now and the Mayor’s charity.

Team member and event organiser Mike Sumption said: “We were delighted to present the money to such worthwhile causes.

“The challenge is always a difficult one but it is extremely worthwhile when you see the end result.”

Cavendish Cancer Care spokesman Jonny Cole said: “We can't thank the team enough for helping us in this way.

"It's a fantastic achievement and they should be very proud of their efforts-particularly the time they did it in.”
