Rotherham Bus service connecting estate to Rotherham set to continue

A BUS service connecting an isolated estate with Rotherham town centre is to keep running.

Stagecoach introduced the 106 from the Wentworth Parks estate, Swinton, a year ago following a public campaign.

It was the first time in nearly 20 years that the estate had buses travelling to and from the town centre.

It has been used by about 700 passengers a month since setting off last January, South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive said.

A spokesman added: “As part of our tender renewal process, we are aiming provide financial support beyond April.”

Ward councillor Stuart Sansome added: “I am absolutely over the moon to hear that the 106 service will continue.

“We worked really hard to get a bus for this area because residents told us how much they needed one.

“I’m really pleased that local people have made such good use of the service and glad that SYPTE recognise this.”
