Rotherham beauty spot goes electric to bring in more cash

ELECTRIC boats have arrived for hire at Rother Valley Country Park as council bosses aim to make more cash from the beauty spot.

Rotherham Borough Council announced the investment in late 2016 as part of its budget for this year, which includes savings of £24 million.

It is hoped the six boats - costing £10 for a 15-minute ride - will generate £33,000 a year at the country park.

Electric cycles suitable for four to six people are also available at a cost of £21 per hour.

Polly Hamilton, the council’s assistant director for tourism, said: “A visit to Rother Valley Country Park provides families with a brilliant day out in the fresh air.

“The two new additions of the electric family boats and electric cycles give visitors a brand new experience at the park.

“We encourage families and children to come along and have a great day out. A trip to the park this summer will give lots of fun and excitement for the whole family.”

Also for hire at Rother Valley are water zorbs, canoes, paddle boards, windsurfs, rowing boats and pedal boats.
