Romantic boyfriend picks Wentworth Woodhouse as perfect proposal venue

A LOVED-UP boyfriend picked an atmospheric spot to pop the question - the hallowed halls of Wentworth Woodhouse.

The massive mansion formed the backdrop for Alasdair Jamieson to propose to Becky Machin (35) after the pair took a tour of the gardens.

Appropriately, he chose to make his romantic move in the elegant Long Gallery, where weddings are regularly held.

Alasdair (35), of Swinton, said: “I thought it would be the perfect setting to propose, and arranged it in advance with staff at Wentworth Woodhouse.

“They told me it would be their very first proposal at the house and could not have been more supportive.”

Becky - who said yes - added: “The proposal was a complete surprise and it could not have been a more romantic setting.

“I was so touched he had managed to pull off a proposal in somewhere so beautiful.

“It’s lovely to think we are the first people this century to become engaged there, although I’d love to find out about the marriage proposals that must have happened in the house since it was built in the 1700s. We must be in illustrious company.”
