Roadworks cause lengthy delays on M1

OVERRUNNING roadworks continue to cause delays for motorists this morning (Wednesday).

The southbound carriageway of the M1 motorway had to remain closed between junction 33 for Catcliffe and junction 32 for the M18 after overnight works were not completed by 6am.

A Highways England spokesman said all lanes reopened at around 7.30am but traffic remains heavy back to junction 36 for Barnsley.

There are also delays on Upper Wortley Road, Thorpe Hesley, and Rother Way, Rotherham, as motorists seek alternative routes.
