Residents moved out as firefighters tackle blaze

SEVERAL homes had to evacuated after fire broke out in a neighbouring field.

Residents on Clough Road, Thorn Hill, were asked to leave their homes as the wind blew fast-moving flames close the properties shortly after 4pm yesterday.

Firefighters worked for around an hour to put out the flames to bring an end to the threat from the recently harvested stubble field.

The police helicopter also patrolled the skies above Thornhill for the duration of the blaze.

Although firefighters recorded the cause as “accidental” on their incident log one Clough Road resident,told the Advertiser: “My husband walks our dogs around the field and he had seen some young kids lighting fires just a few days earlier.

“Whether the two incidents are related, it’s impossible to say, but yesterday’s fire gave everyone quite a scare.”
